The City of Cynthiana Police Department is a full service department consisting of 16 certified officers. The Police Department is manned twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The physical location of the department is at 420 E. Pleasant Street.

Chief Ray Johnson, a 15-year veteran of the department, currently heads up the Cynthiana Police Department with the help of Assistant Chief William Denton. All officers of this department are graduates of the Police Academy sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) of Richmond, Kentucky. DOCJT is a nationally recognized agency that provides state-of-the-art training to law enforcement officers in Kentucky. All officers are required to attend 40 hours of in-service training annually.
Ten-hour shifts are supervised by the department’s three Sergeants: Brian T. Wells, Wilbur Gross, and Eric Kendall.
The Cynthiana Police Department is fortunate to have the latest technology at their disposal. The E911 LINC system is a valuable tool giving them access to information nationwide. Nine patrol cars are equipped with radar.
In addition to making sure the City’s Code of Ordinances is being enforced, the Police Department has the awesome responsibility of maintaining a peaceful, safe community.
They also provide police escorts for funerals and direct traffic for special functions. The Police Department provides a house check for absent homeowners and routine business checks. Officers are also very visible to the community through our bicycle patrol.
Each year our Police Department participates in the annual Shop-with-a Cop program that helps needy children in our community.
