Fire Department

The City of Cynthiana has a full-time, professional Fire Department with 20 firefighters. A workweek for a firefighter consists of one 24-hour shift every three days. In December of 2022, Lieutenant Bob Chaffee was appointed as Fire Chief.  The City has two fire stations. The main fire station is located at City Hall, 104 E Pleasant Street. Fire Station #2, which serves the east side of the City, is located at 424 E Pleasant Street. Fire Station #2 is manned by one of the three lieutenants.

The City of Cynthiana Fire Department is required to have 100 hours of continuing education each year. In addition to fire suppression, they also conduct inspections and answer alarm drops at local businesses. Our firefighters are also trained as First Responders; they provide assistance at the scene of injury accidents. Every year, a fire prevention education program is conducted through the school system, ending with a parade of fire trucks and a day of fun for the youth of the community. The Cynthiana Fire Department also provides a service to the public by unlocking vehicles and dwellings.

The Fire Department provides vital services to our citizens and our community. It has a rich history of dedicated, competent firefighters who work to make our community a safer place to live and work.
