River & Fall Foliage

Cynthiana turns 230 years old this year! With a long and proud history full of ups and downs through the years, Cynthiana is having a fantastic year! God appears to have smiled on our little slice of the world over the last few years and poured down blessings. It’s not too far out of bounds to call Cynthiana one of the busiest little towns in Kentucky. Our Tourism Commission has gained us the title of “Kentucky’s #1 Fall Destination,” and we’ve run with it. New people try to move here every day, and it seems like people are taking notice.

The Cynthiana City Commission started the year with some Strategic Planning and working on an update of our Long-Range Strategic Plan. It’s not been easy because goals that were on our 5-to-10-year plan have accelerated and are happening right now. Our Splashpad project kicked off this year, and construction is underway on that major park project. A $5 million low-head dam safety project was awarded to us this year and has begun. A $4 million water tower and UV disinfectant project has just been put out for bid, which will improve our water pressure at our business park and southwestern Harrison County. A $12 million road project to support the expansion of the HC School Campus has started. Those are just a few of the big projects going on in the city to make Cynthiana and Harrison County a better place for ourselves, children, and grandchildren.

Sometimes, it’s hard to remember where Cynthiana was ten years ago. We forget how far the journey has been and how much work it has taken from many people and organizations to get to where we are today. Cynthiana is a different city than it was a decade ago, and there are so many people working to make it a better place tomorrow. It truly takes the whole community coming together to see actual progress, and I couldn’t be prouder of our small town than I am today. There are so many people giving their time and talents to the cause, from our city employees to the countless volunteers.

This fall, we’ve had record numbers of people visiting Cynthiana. They come for the fall activities and decorations. They come for the many events and festivals, and they come because we’ve become a great destination. We’ve created an exceptional community, and the big plans we have for the future are even more exciting. We’ve got new businesses locating here and old businesses making significant investments. The amount of housing starts and assets are at an all-time high.
So, if you call Cynthiana home, celebrate our success as 2023 enters the final stretch. And get ready for an incredible 2024!

Happy Birthday, Cynthiana! If we could go back 230 years, I wonder what young Cynthia and Ana Harrison, from whom our city got its name, would think about the city we’ve become.
