Before the close of 2023, plans were placed in motion for the City of Cynthiana to hire a Code Enforcement Officer. Ultimately, the hiring committee landed on Keith Grob. Keith has been a resident of Harrison County since 2002, moving here with his wife, Micki - a Harrison County native. Micki is the librarian at Northside Elementary School, and they are members of Unity Christian Church. Keith holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University, his master's being in Safety, Security, & Emergency Management. The Grobs have two children: Parker, a Cynthiana resident and 2018 graduate from HCHS, and Riley, a junior at HCHS.
Keith is passionate about the Cynthiana/Harrison County community and has already dived into the job. Since starting in mid-January, Grob has been immersing himself in reviewing the city's nuisance code and familiarizing himself with the code enforcement software iWorQ. He has begun fielding nuisance violations carried over from 2023. Mayor James Smith is "excited to have Code Enforcement back in the fold of city government. Good Code Enforcement helps improve our city and citizen's health and safety, quality of life, and property values."
Grob's new role includes conducting routine inspections of city properties to identify violations. Resident complaints, referrals from the city commission, or observations during patrol can trigger these inspections. The Office of Code Enforcement supervision was assigned to Commissioner Dailey in the January 16th commission meeting. Dailey said, "Code Enforcement was one of the top issues I heard when campaigning in 2022; I'm glad to be a part of the solution."
Cynthiana's nuisance code can be found on the homepage of the city's website - cynthianaky.com. Code enforcement issues and complaints may be sent to (859)508-0818 or keith.grob@cynthianaky.com.
