🚛 Harrison County Solid Waste Center – Updated Accepted Items Beginning MARCH 4, 2025! ♻️
The Harrison County Solid Waste Center has expanded the list of items accepted for recycling and disposal! Please review the updated guidelines below.

• Monday – Friday: 7:30 AM – 3:45 PM
• Saturday: 7:30 AM – 11:45 AM
Four Types of Drop-Offs
1️⃣ Recycling (Left of Scales – Compactor)
Place the following in the recycling compactor:
✅ Plastic bottles, fruit cups, yogurt containers, tubs, and cartons
✅ Glass bottles & jars (any color)
✅ Paper, cardboard, metal cans
✅ Spray bottles (remove nozzle before disposal)
2️⃣ Trash Disposal (Right of Scales – Dumpsters)
• Drive onto the scale to weigh your vehicle.
• Unload trash into the designated dumpsters (not beside them or into the pit).
• Return to the scale for final weight and payment.
💲 Cost: $0.06 per pound ($15 minimum)
3️⃣ Metal & Large Appliance Drop-Off (Truck Past Recycling Compactor) – FREE disposal of:
✅ Dryers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers
✅ Microwaves, ranges, refrigerators, washers, dishwashers
✅ Scrap metal, steel, copper, aluminum
✅ CRT televisions & monitors
✅ UPS/Battery backups
✅ Fire Extinguishers, Propane Tanks and Oxygen Tanks
4️⃣ Electronics Recycling (Gaylords on Skids – Inside or in Front of Garage)
Starting Tuesday March 4th and occurring Tuesday and Thursday from 9-3:30 each day.
Accepted items include:
✅ AC adaptors, analyzers/test equipment, calculators
✅ Cameras & camera equipment
✅ CD players, DVD/VHS/Blu-ray players
✅ Cell phones, telephones, office phones
✅ Computers, laptops, tablets, all-in-one systems
✅ Copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines
✅ Electronic exercise equipment, lawn equipment, electronic toys
✅ Gaming devices/consoles
✅ Hard drives, household electronics, ink/toner
✅ Keyboards, LCD monitors, mainframes, medical devices
✅ Mice, security equipment, servers, shredders
✅ Stereo equipment, vacuums, wires/cables/cords
❌ Items NOT Accepted
🚫 Batteries
🚫 Fuel containers, gasoline, oil, oil-based paint
🚫 Mercury-containing devices
🚫 Syringes, medical waste, medication
🚫 Tires ( These should be removed from the vehicle before going across the scale. We charge a fee for tires separately and store them in another location on the property.)
⚠️ Items That CANNOT Go in Gaylords but CAN Go in Dumpsters
✅ VHS tapes, CDs, cassette tapes, data tapes
✅ Bare CRT tubes, projection TVs
✅ Electric lamps
✅ Plastic (unless from electronics)
✅ Miscellaneous trash
✅ Styrofoam, packing materials, wood
🖌️ Paint Disposal Guidelines:
• Latex paint can be dried out using cat litter, mulch, shredded newspaper, sawdust, or similar absorbent materials. Paint must be completely dry and solid before disposal.
• Oil-based paint is considered hazardous and must be disposed of through an appropriate hazardous waste service.
