The City of Cynthiana is excited to announce that it is currently accepting proposals for the purchase, renovation, and development of a cornerstone property located at 139 E. Pike Street, in the heart of the Maiden City.
The classically painted black-and-white 1800s brick-and-mortar building at 139 E. Pike Street is a blank canvas in a highly visible location, ready to complement the existing energy along one of our community's most traveled corridors. This two-story structure offers over 4,300 square feet of space between its first and second floors, featuring a solid roof, a dry concrete-floored basement, and a new HVAC system, providing the property with a strong foundation for future investment. Over the years, it has housed many local businesses, most fondly remembered as Begley's Drug Store and, more recently, as a karate studio. The City Commission views this property as a crucial opportunity to continue investing in our local economy, enhance the downtown experience, and support creative entrepreneurs ready to make their mark. Now, it's ready for a new chapter.
"We're focused on turning underused spaces into opportunities for growth. This building has good bones, a great location, and the potential to become something really meaningful," said Mayor Isaac Dailey. "The City wants to make it easier for people with good ideas to get a foothold in Cynthiana. If you're ready to build something new: a shop, a business, a home, a future. Then we'd love to see your vision for 139 E. Pike."
We are especially interested in proposals that would activate the first floor with walk-in retail, restaurant, or service-based uses, while utilizing the second floor for residential or event space. This combination supports our goals of increasing foot traffic downtown, expanding our housing options, and encouraging mixed-use development that adds vibrancy to Pike Street.
The property is being offered for sale, and the City is open to creative proposals from experienced developers, first-time business owners, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs with a strong plan and community vision. This project is part of a broader effort to make productive use of underutilized properties and turn them into assets that serve the people of Cynthiana and Harrison County.
Interested parties are encouraged to schedule a walkthrough of the building by calling The Mayor's Office at 859-234-7153. Proposals should demonstrate a clear vision for the building's use, a realistic timeline for renovation, and a commitment to maintaining the character and integrity of our historic downtown.
We believe in the power of good ideas and strong partnerships. If you have a vision for 139 E. Pike Street, we want to hear from you.
Together, we can continue building a better Cynthiana one space at a time.
