The City of Cynthiana was established in 1793 along the banks of the South Fork of the Licking River. Cynthiana is located in the “golden triangle”, 28 miles from Lexington, 90 miles from Louisville, and 60 miles from Cincinnati, and has served for many years as the hub of commerce, education, and government for Harrison County and surrounding communities.

Change in Siren Test - City sirens will be tested weekly on Wednesdays at noon, beginning Feb 6.  Sirens had been tested monthly on the first Tuesday at 7 pm.  These sirens are to alert citizens of threatening weather.

Aug 21 - The Harrison County Historical Society meets the third Thursday of each month (except December) at 7:00PM at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library community room. The public is invited to attend. Membership in the society is $12 per year and can be sent to the Society at PO Box 411,Cynthiana, KY 41031.

Sep 6 - True Classic Car Club host a Cruise on the first Saturday of each summer month through October. Spectators welcome. Cruise in begins 6:00 to dusk. Sales of hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, sno - cones. Proceeds got to local church youth groups
